I Did This: Dogs, Rescue Your Human Here. Nothing Could Be More Important.

"I Rescued a Human Today"

In each issue of WoofTracks.com, we feature at least one Animal Shelter. Please send us word of worthy Shelters you would like to see featured on our Blog. Dogs, rescue your Human here – nothing could be more important.

Look in my eyes: I’m a self-respecting assistant editor of a Dog Blog, WoofTracks.com. I’m also a Family member: I love my SHs (Significant Humans), two Cats, and fellow Dog in my Family; they all care about me, and there’s nothing whatsoever I wouldn’t do for them. I’m also a former Shelter Dog. Surprised? You shouldn’t be: We come in all sizes, breed mixtures and ages. In a sense, we rescue Humans. They come to our Shelters seeking a new family member. Some just want to ease their loneliness. Some want us to give companionship to their Human young, or have one of our Senior members comfort one of theirs. Most hope to find a special quality they can name, but which few Humans seem able to give to one another: They call it “unconditional love”. We don’t call it anything - we just live it, by giving our whole heart to our Forever Family, through thick and thin, for life.

One of my Canine Kind got his SH (Significant Human), Janine Allen, to tell you how it feels to rescue a Human:

“I Rescued A Human Today”

[Quoted with permission: Here is the Note posted by Janine Allen on Monday, November 17th, 2008:

"I am so flattered at how many people have emailed me for permission to cross post this little essay. Feel free to share this with everyone you know. People can find the Dog of their dreams at a shelter; let’s hope they make shelter adoption their first option.

Hugs to all of you and your beloved Dogs!"]

Another perspective to think about…

“I Rescued a Human Today”

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one. I rescued a Human today.”

Big Fluffy Dog Rescue, a 501©(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need. They value Dogs of all breeds, but they specialize in what the name says: Big, fluffy dogs. As you can see in my picture, your author isn’t a Giant (unless you count the size of my love for my Family!) but I sure am Fluffy, and – I DID THIS!
